The World Wide Web (WWW) is a hypertext system which is available on the Internet. It was on 6 August 1991 made available to the public. Originally formed in 1989 as a project at CERN in Geneva (Switzerland), in which Tim Berners-Lee created a hypertext system. The real aim then was to research eg of universities in a simple way to exchange with each other. Berners-Lee called his network viewer simply "WorldWideWeb," which he later renamed, however, in "Nexus" to avoid confusion with the World Wide Web (with spaces to avoid). The name could not prevail in the long run, however, and so was his development as a World Wide Web (WWW known). His system could then only display text. Not until 1993 was the first graphic-browser called "Mosaic" on the market, which was developed by Marc Andreessen of NCSA, the Internet got more popularity and explosive growth of managed one of the WWW. The company "Mosaic Communications Corporation", which was subsequently founded Marc Andreessen, later renamed Netscape Communications. The World Wide Web is based on the standards of HTTP, HTML and URL. HTTP is the protocol with which the browser request the information from the server. The World Wide Web Consortium (W3C short), which was founded in 1994 by Tim Burners-Lee tried since then to uniform standards on the Internet, is driving the development of XHTML and CSS and is committed to the accessibility of websites.
